India will host the Global Pulse Meeting in Delhi from February 15.

The three-day annual conference of the Global Pulse Confederation (GPC), Pulses 24, will begin on February 15 in Delhi, where several dignitaries, including ministers, senior officials and industry leaders from India and around 40 other countries, will discuss the issues . including Indian strategies. to achieve self-sufficiency in production. “Vegetables are critical to sustainable food systems and key players in food security and nutrition in India. The timing and location of this year’s GPC Congress in New Delhi could not be more appropriate as we look at the consolidation and collaboration of the global pulse industry” said GPC President Vijay Iyengar. “The presence of these senior government speakers shows the active role of the government in promoting pulses in the country highlighting the importance of these crops,” said Iyengar.

Although the GPC is the world’s largest producer and consumer of vegetables, previous annual conferences have been held around the world, including Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Cesmi (Turkey), Vancouver (Canada), Barcelona ( Spain), Singapore, Las Vegas (USA), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Cape Town (South Africa) and Sydney (Australia). Sunil Kumar Singh, Additional Managing Director, Nafed, said that when he attended the GPC Global Conference earlier, realized that it had never been held in India, so he suggested the GPC Board to hold it here and it agreed. Besides providing a platform to promote global trade in pulses, GPC is committed to positioning pulses as smart crops for a sustainable future, the statement said. It is dedicated to increasing the consumption and production of legumes worldwide to mitigate the effects of climate change, malnutrition and food security.
