India’s wheat area deficit narrows to 2% in 2022, but exceeds normal area

In the current season, the area under wheat  has exceeded the normal area by 307.32 lakh hectares (lh). It  also narrowed the gap compared to last year’s coverage, with the gap narrowing to less than 6 LH as of Friday. The government hopes for a good harvest, although not bigger than last year.

The wheat seeding deficit decreased from 3% on December 15th to 2% by December 22nd. According to the latest data, the wheat cultivation area reached 308,667 lh, a year ago it was 314.42 lh. As wheat sowing continues in full swing, 24.52 lh were covered last week.

  Sown area of ​​all oilseed rape for 2023 up to December 22 reached 606.86 lh, which is almost 94 percent of the normal  648.33 lh. According to experts, it is still  3 percent lower than a year ago in the same period of 624.03 lh. The difference may decrease to 1-2 percent until the end of the season.
