NITI Aayog convenes high-level meeting on exploitation of fisheries potential

Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Suman Bery and Member Ramesh Chand along with representatives of NITI Aayog, Union Ministry of Fisheries and fisheries departments of nine coastal states and one Union Territory are attending the meeting. Government representatives from West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar will participate in the workshop. The workshop is organized in collaboration with ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) and Kerala Fisheries Department. The meeting will be attended by a diverse group of key stakeholders, including central and state government decision makers, leading industry experts and researchers, providing a forum to share maritime experiences and enable open dialogue on the challenges ahead and potential. solutions

The workshop will also discuss critical aspects of certification and sustainability, market relations, value added and seafood exports, as well as challenges in fisheries and the fishing industry. This special workshop assumes importance as the industry seeks concerted efforts and cooperation between various coastal states and the Center to unlock the potential of India’s maritime wealth. The goal is to develop tailored strategies and partnerships to meet challenges and chart future perspectives, the release states.
