The Gujarat Milk Marketing Cooperative Federation (GCMMF), which owns the Amul brand, is celebrating its golden jubilee in Ahmedabad, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate five dairy projects worth ₹1,200 crore. “The Prime Minister is about to inaugurate a ₹ 650 crore cheese factory set up at Sabar Dairy Gujarat. The Prime Minister laid the foundation for this factory earlier. He is also inaugurating Amul’s Long Life Tetra Pack Milk Processing Plant in Anandi. Also the capacity of the Amul Chocolate factory to be opened by Modi in 2018 will double. We are also expanding our Mozzarella cheese production unit. Sarhad Dairy’s 50,000 liter per day ice cream factory in Kutch will also be inaugurated,” said Jayen Mehta, CEO, GCMMF.
Celebrating farmers
“This golden jubilee event aims to celebrate the efforts of farmers. It came together as part of a cooperative model and built a global milk brand. GCMMF was established at a time when there were only six milk unions in Gujarat. This was to avoid intra-union competition and protect milk producers from private traders operating in the market,” said Mehta. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, where the Golden Jubilee event is taking place.
Around 800 women will dance too. The song of Amul Manthan’ in a cultural ceremony at the event in Ahmedabad.The exhibition is also organized at the stadium. On February 23, PM Modi will inaugurate a state-of-the-art milk processing plant at Banas Dairy.in Varanasi.
