The government is introducing a unified agricultural statistics portal, UPAg

The Center on Friday launched a unified  agricultural statistics portal and named it UPAg, terming it as a pioneering measure to address the current complex management challenges  facing India’s agriculture sector.  “This innovative platform, designed to simplify and improve agricultural information management, is a significant step towards a more efficient and responsive agricultural policy,” the Ministry of Agriculture  said in a statement.

After launching the portal, NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand said, “Such an initiative was long overdue and  has  great potential to turn a small baby into a mighty elephant.” He suggested that the reliability of the data should be guaranteed by the Ministry of Agriculture, which manages the portal, and according to him, the less objectivity of the data,  the less room for decision. This in turn leads to stable, open and informed decisions.

“The portal provides stakeholders with real-time, reliable and standardized information, paving the way for a more responsive and efficient agricultural policy,” the ministry said.  Agriculture Minister Manoj Ahuja asserted that the UPAg portal will help users get reliable, accurate and objective information. According to Ruchika Gupta, advisor to the ministry, the UPAg portal addresses management issues related to agricultural data, such as lack of standardized and controlled data, and is poised to change the landscape with a holistic approach to data integration and analysis.

According to the authorities, agricultural data are currently scattered from different sources and often presented in different formats and units. The purpose of the UPAg portal is to combine this information in a standard format, making it easily accessible and understandable for users. It aggregates real-time information on prices, production, area, yield and trade from various sources and provides a comprehensive assessment of agricultural products.
